Our Story

Step out of the bustle of the workday world into the serenity of fields of lavender and breathe in the heady scent of relaxation

Lavenlair Farm is an ever growing work in progress. The original owners, David and Diane Allen, found a stone farm house from 1820 and decided to revive it into the magical setting they knew it could become. They added all the green updates to give it a 21st Century zero carbon footprint; geothermal heat, solar hot water, well water, solar electricity, all sourced locally. In 2013 they hand built the "Laverinth" a 100ft diameter, lavender planted, Petit-Chartres meditative labyrinth. In 2014 they added 1600 lavender plants to the farm, and in 2015, 2400 more.

In 2016 & 2017, the Allens partnered with Cornell University Extension to host studies of lavender and mint varieties hardy to the North Country. There are now 18 different varieties of lavender and several varieties of mint on the farm.

Located in the rolling hills of the Champlain Valley of NY, the farm’s views include three mountain ranges: the Taconic Mountains, the Green Mountains, and the Adirondack Mountains.

In 2022, the Allens sold the farm to Matt and Linda Smith. The Smiths saw the farm and fell in love at first sight, just as David and Diane did all those years ago.

Matt & Linda’s Lavenlair Story

Hi. We are the proud new owners of Lavenlair Farm! We love the old stone house, we love the lavender and, most of all, we love you - our lavender friends!

We will continue the work that the Allens did - from preparing the lavender plants for their winter rest to pruning and trimming in the spring. We will also be working with the same support team which includes our beekeeper to the individuals who helped Diane make all the lavender products. Just as the Allens did, we will continue to make nearly all of the products right here in the kitchen of the old stone house.

We will be adding something new to the farm! In addition to our retail customer service and farming background, we also raised and trained Percheron draft horses and plan on integrating them into the Lavenlair Farm experience.

We are so excited about this new chapter in our lives. We look forward to meeting you and exceeding  your expectations!

And so, the passion and commitment to life on a sustainable farm—filled with lots and lots of lavender—lives on!
